JFF CEO Maria Flynn was quoted in a June 30 Wall Street Journal article about Microsoft’s decision to provide free online classes and job-hunting resources to 25 million people by the end of the year as a way to help workers whose careers have been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Noting that Microsoft’s announcement comes as multiple corporations are stepping up their investments in job training for employees and members of their communities, the Journal quoted Flynn saying, “We’re seeing a number of leading companies making tangible dollar and policy commitments” and then observing that, beyond the money, what will also be critical is “how they respond in terms of hiring practices, assessing talent, and investing in workers.”
The Journal also reported that the Walmart Foundation had recently awarded JFF a $6 million grant to enhance its capacity to boost economic mobility.
