California's Assembly Bill 554 requires Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) to partner with apprenticeship programs, creating a smoother training pathway that broadens access to apprenticeships. With the help of GreenWays, the Los Angeles Workforce Funder Collaborative, California Workforce Investment Board, the California State Buidling and Construction Trades Council, and the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards are co-hosting a planning meeting for the implementation of AB 554 in the Los Angeles region. The meeting brings together high level staff from WIBs, unions, joint labor-management apprenticeship committees, and community based organizations. In addition to local Pathways Out of Poverty partners, national partners Jobs for the Future, Working for America Institute, and Wider Opportunities for Women are attending and have helped organize the meeting.
